Barnes & Noble of Salisbury, Maryland is partnering with Character Counts Mid Shore, Inc. to present a benefit Book Fair on May 11, 12, and 13. When a Character Counts voucher is presented, a portion of the net purchase will be donated to support the work of CCMS in Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot Counties.
The project was developed by Dorchester County Coordinator for CCMS, Laura Weldon, with the help of Hannah Miller, Community Relations Specialist for the Barnes & Noble Salisbury location.
In order for the donation to be applied, customers must present a voucher from CCMS. Vouchers will be distributed at upcoming school events, such as spring concerts and parent gatherings. They can also be downloaded and printed out directly from the CCMS website, www.charactercountsmidshore.org.
"We're really excited about this opportunity to partner with Character Counts," said Ms. Miller. "We believe that character development and reading are a natural fit, and we want to encourage parents to use books to expand their children's horizons." Barnes & Noble offers the voucher program as a fundraising opportunity for non-profits as a way to support the communities around their stores, she added.
"In addition to helping raise money for Character Counts, we're hoping that our community comes out to show support for their schools, too" Mrs. Weldon said. "Each of our schools is preparing a 'wish list' of books they'd like to add to their libraries, which parents can refer to when making their purchases at Barnes & Noble."
Of course, purchases may also be made for families, gifts, and even for Mom, since the event takes place Mother's Day Weekend.
