Starting in January of 1998 in Talbot County,
the Winners Walk Tall program and its regiment
of community volunteers or Character Coaches has been sharing the importance of good character in public elementary, middle and high schools. Now present in all three of the mid shore counties of Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot, 208 volunteers are serving 315 classrooms with weekly 15 minute lessons about the Six Pillars of Character.
All training, materials and support are provided by each county’s County Community Coordinator and there are events scheduled through out the year where coaches can network and share ideas.
Character Coaches come from all walks of life from various parts of the community. Real estate agents, public officials, nurses, construction contractors, emergency medical personnel and college professors and high school students are just a few of the volunteers that spend time each week in the classroom.
