Character Counts Mid Shore has grown in both territory and in scope because of the support of people like you. Now covering the three counties of the Mid Shore (on Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore) and participating in projects all over Maryland. We offer you the opportunity to spend some time sharing your experiences and offering your guidance to help shape the next generation.
We all teach character every day just by the things we do and say. As the old saying goes, "Either you are teaching good character... or you are teaching something else!"
Approximately 200 individuals are currently contributing a little time each week to be Character Coaches in our schools in the Winners Walk Tall program. Each coach spends about 15 minutes in two classrooms every week to discuss a variety of character-based topics with students. The students form a real bond with their coaches, because he or she shows them that the community cares about who they are, and the kind of people they will become.
But there are numerous other opportunities to help as well. Our Laws of Life Essay Contest receives approximately 1,500 entries, and dozens of volunteers from all over the region work to read and judge each one carefully. There are also many opportunities within your county that require any amount of time you are willing to commit.
Please contact your community coordinator to see how you can help build character!
