"This country
will not be a
good place for
any of us to live
in unless we
make it a good
place for all of
us to live in."

-Theodore Roosevelt

A Brief History of CCMS!

In 1994, as part of an academic project, Richard T. Allen of Oxford, Maryland posed the question: “What ever became of respect and responsibility?”The headlines of the day were charged with mistrust and misdeeds in government, business, and society, and it looked like as a nation, we had truly lost our way.The answer came in the form of a small boy fishing, who introduced Mr. Allen to Character Counts and the Six Pillars of Character.Immediately he began organizing a citizen-based group that would present positive character as a strong beacon for young people, and indeed all citizens to follow. The idea quickly grew, and today our messages reach literally tens of thousands of individuals each week. Character Counts Mid Shore now serves three counties, and has truly shown the power of “The Community Driven Model” of Character Education.
